Hazing allegations at Shippensburg lead to fraternity suspension

Shippensburg University placed an interim suspension on Theta Xi while the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards investigates hazing accusations.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — One fraternity at a central Pennsylvania university has been suspended in light of hazing allegations.

Shippensburg University placed an interim suspension on Theta Xi while the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards investigates the accusations.

The school says it is still gathering details as to what exactly occurred to prompt the allegations. Theta Xi currently reports 25 active members on its website, Shippensburg University said.

More information on the investigative process can be found here.

"It is important to note that the university does not just provide resources to report hazing, but also prioritizes pro-active anti-hazing education to students on a regular basis," a statement from the school read in part.

Shippensburg University reminds students that they can always report misconduct and hazing online; more information can be found here.

The school says state guidelines require that it update hazing reports online on Jan. 1 and Aug. 1 each year.
