CARLISLE, Pa. — Two people in Cumberland County have been charged with multiple sex crimes relating to child pornography after an investigation by State Police.
Jamie Souders, 42, of Middlesex Township, and Morgan Rothenhoefer, 24, of Carlisle, are both facing 18 felony counts, including rape of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, photographing or filming a sex act depicting a child under 18, child pornography, corruption of minors and criminal use of a communication facility, according to charging documents.
Rothenhoefer is a former employee at Tender Years Child Development Center in Mechanicsburg, authorities said. None of the charges involve any children from that facility, and she was fired when the charges were brought to light.
State Police began investigating in June, when they received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, who reported suspected child pornography had been uploaded to cloud storage software. Police traced the IP address to a phone number belonging to Souders, charging documents state.
The images depicted children under the age of 10 engaged in sex acts, according to police.
Investigators traced the IP address used to upload the photos to a home belonging to Sauders and obtained a search warrant to collect any electronic devices found there.
In an interview with police on Sept. 5, Souders allegedly admitted to viewing images of child sexual abuse on the internet and having pictures and videos depicting child pornography on his cell phone.
Police collected the device, and a forensic examination discovered multiple images of child pornography.
They also discovered at least eight videos involving Souders and Rothenhoefer engaging in sex acts with an 8-year-old boy, according to charging documents. Both Souders and Rothenhoefer claimed they did not remember everything depicted in the video because they were drunk or under the influence of Adderall.
According to court records, both are being held in Cumberland County Prison after bail was denied.
