Police have charged a nurse at UPMC West Shore Hospital with using one of her patients' credit cards to make more than $1,200 in unauthorized purchases for herself.

Mojgan Amiri-Parian, 45, has been charged with receiving stolen property and access device fraud by Lower Allen Township Police.

A warrant has been issued for her arrest.

According to police, the alleged thefts were reported on February 29. The caller, who was the administrator for the estate of his recently deceased sister, told police he noticed suspicious activity on his sister's bank account.

The caller explained that his sister was admitted to UPMC West Shore on January 22, and died in the hospital on January 25. In reviewing her finances, he noticed multiple debit card transactions from her PNC Bank account from January 23 through January 25, when his sister was in the hospital, according to police.

The victim had not given anyone permission to use her debit card, the caller told police.

The caller reported the debit card had been used on January 24 at a Target store for $208.44, on January 25 at a Sheetz for $34.31 and a Pandora at the Capital City Mall for $540.60, and on January 26 again at Pandora for $402.80 and Chipotle for $20.14.

The total amount charged to the victim's debit card was $1,206.29, police claim.

Investigators obtained video surveillance from the mall and from Sheetz, according to police. They found a physical description of the suspect and the vehicle she used to commit the alleged offenses.

Police traced the vehicle's license plate to Amiri-Parian, who was confirmed to be the same woman in the video.

During the investigation, it was also discovered that Amiri-Parian is employed as a nurse at UPMC West, and her role involves taking care of patients who are moved from the emergency room and waiting for a room in the ICU.
