CARLISLE, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issued a warning Wednesday to motorists planning to travel on Interstate 81 near Carlisle on Friday: be ready for rolling stops.

The rolling stops will be implemented as a precaution so that a contractor can perform blasting work for a UGI substation near the interstate, PennDOT said.

Weather permitting, there will be a single blast between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday between Exit 52 (Route 11/PA Turnpike) and Exit 49 (Route 641/High Street), PennDOT said.

As a safety precaution, there will be rolling stops of up to 10 minutes in both directions of I-81 between Exit 52 and Exit 49, according to PennDOT.

Motorists should be alert and watch for stopped or slow-moving vehicles.
