Police have charged an 18-year-old Camp Hill man with bringing a knife onto school grounds at Cedar Cliff High School.

Nahzir Mitchell is charged with possession of a weapon on school property, disorderly conduct, and simple assault, according to Lower Allen Township Police.

He was arrested after an officer on foot patrol on December 15 encountered a "sizable altercation" involving several students. Mitchell was seen engaging in a physical altercation with a 15-year-old juvenile student, police claim.

When the officer arrived, Mitchell attempted to leave the scene by crossing the street, police said. Other students told the officer Mitchell was not a student at the school and was the instigator of the altercation, according to police.

The officer placed Mitchell in handcuffs and interviewed multiple witnesses, who reported that Mitchell and two other people -- students at the school who were not in attendance that day -- exited a Dodge Durango driven by Mitchell to confront a female student. The male student involved in the physical altercation with Mitchell reported he intervened to protect the girl, police said.

The male student sustained cuts to his forehead during the fight with Mitchell, police said.

A search of Mitchell revealed he was carrying a 7-inch spring-loaded knife in the waistband of his pants.

Mitchell was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Paul Fegley, who set bail at $50,000.

Mitchell was released after posting bail, according to court records.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 25, court records indicate.
