CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A Cumberland County man was found guilty of multiple crimes, including rape of a child.

According to the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office, on Tuesday, Oct. 15, following a trial, a jury found Dennis Meyer Jr. guilty of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual assault with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, unlawful contact with a minor, sexual assault and indecent assault.

The charges were brought forth after the 12-year-old victim reported Meyer was sexually abusing them.

An investigation determined Meyer had been engaging in a pattern of grooming behavior and sexual assault of the child for two years.

Witnesses reported that Meyer would show direct favoritism to the child by buying them special gifts, spending time with them and giving them extra treats.

At trial, the victim testified that the gifts were given to them after Meyer inflicted sexual abuse.

Meyer is a repeat offender and was previously convicted of involuntary deviate sexual assault involving another child victim, for which he served ten years in a State Correctional Institution. Because he is a repeat offender, the Commonwealth intends to seek a 25-year minimum sentence for each charge.

Meyer is currently being held without bail in the Cumberland County Prison pending sentencing, which is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2025.
