CAMP HILL, Pa. — An argument led to more than a dozen charges -- including eight felony counts -- against a Cumberland County man last week, police in East Pennsboro Township said.

Shawn Paul Swingler, 50, of Camp Hill, allegedly stabbed a woman multiple times with kitchen shears and a butcher knife, strangled her, and threatened to kill her and her family if she left or called the police, according to a criminal complaint affidavit filed by investigators.

He also locked himself inside the bedroom of the victim's apartment and threatened to kill himself if arresting officers didn't leave, police claim.

The victim sustained cuts and bruises to her face, small puncture wounds to her palms after being stabbed by the shears, and a stab wound to one of her feet from the knife, police said.

The victim said she and Swingler had argued all day on November 22, the argument eventually turned physical, as Swingler allegedly began punching and slapping the victim, beating her with the blunt end of a pair of kitchen shears, and eventually stabbing her in the foot with a kitchen knife.

The victim attempted to call 911, but Swingler tackled her and assaulted her again before hanging up the phone, according to the complaint.

But police were dispatched to the victim's home after authorities determined the 911 call came from there. Arriving officers managed to remove the victim, but Swingler did not comply with commands and barricaded himself inside a bedroom in the home after police fired a non-lethal bean bag round at him.

Swingler remained inside the room for several hours, allegedly threatening to track down and kill the officers and their families, according to the complaint.

Police eventually managed to get Swingler out of the room and took him into custody.

He is charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, harassment, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and resisting arrest, according to court records.

Swingler was to Cumberland County Prison after bail was denied. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for December 20.
