SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg Police Department is investigating a series of catalytic converter thefts from vehicles in the Cumberland County borough.
The department said it took three reports on Monday about the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles.
Police are reviewing surveillance camera footage taken from the area in an attempt to identify suspects and gather information, the department said.
According to Vox.com, thieves typically target catalytic converters because they are rich in valuable metals like platinum, palladium and rhodium that can easily be recycled. A stolen catalytic converter can net a thief a few hundred dollars.
Thieves also target the converters because they can be removed from a vehicle in as little as 90 seconds, Vox said.
If anyone had a catalytic converter stolen or has any information about the incidents, they're asked to contact Shippensburg Police or submit a tip online.
