Threat of Tropical Storm Debby causes disruption in central Pa. events

Events are being forced to cancel or switch schedules due to the weather

LISBURN, Pa. — With the threat of now-Tropical Storm Debby looming later this week in central Pennsylvania, events taking place are having to adjust their schedules.

The 71st annual Lisburn Fire Company Festival is closing the festival on Friday and will open on Sunday for the first time in its history due to the threat of serious weather.

Organizers of the fair say the weather has made them have to readjust their entire operation.

"We have to readjust all of our food orders," said Brian Ariano of the Lisburn Fire Company. "We have to adjust all of our deliveries. We have to readjust staffing. We've been begging and borrowing volunteers who staff this event every year to be able to make sure we have enough staff to be able to put on the same quality product that everyone's used to when they come out here."

It comes as events on Wednesday, including many National Night Out events in the area, had to be canceled due to severe thunderstorms.

Ariano says that despite the disruption, he still expects a successful fair this year.

"It's going to be sloppy, but we're going to have a good time," Ariano said. "The ground's going to dry up. We're going to have a good Saturday. And Sunday afternoon is going to be the first time we try this. We're gonna have a lot of fun. I'm hoping for a good attendance."

The festival will be open during normal hours on Thursday and Saturday, and then on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
