CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A crash in the Cumberland County stretch of I-81 southbound has left three people dead on Sunday.
According to a spokesperson for PennDOT, the crash occurred just before 2 p.m. in Silver Spring Township.
The Cumberland County Coroner's Office reported that the crash happened when a tractor-trailer, which had been traveling northbound on I-81, crossed over the center medial lane and struck two passenger cars traveling southbound on I-81.
State police confirmed that there have been three deaths. The victims have been identified as John Sheltman, 79, Eileen Beck, 80, both from Selinsgrove and Lieu Nguyen, 49, from Harrisburg. They were pronounced dead at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries.
I-81 southbound was closed from Exit 57 (Route 114) to Exit 52 (Route 11) for several hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
