MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — A Cumberland County man was indicted for child pornography offenses Wednesday by a federal grand jury, U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam announced.

Timothy Laird Boatman, 39, of Mechanicsburg is charged with multiple counts of sexually exploiting children to produce child pornography and coercing and enticing children to do the same, Karam said.

The alleged offenses occurred between March and July of last year, according to Karam.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Wesley Mishoe prosecuted the case.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

The maximum penalty upon conviction for the charged offenses is life imprisonment, a lifetime term of supervised release following imprisonment, a fine, a statutory assessment, and a special assessment.
