Tractor-trailer fire along Pa. Turnpike in Cumberland County causes traffic delays

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A tractor-trailer fire in Cumberland County temporarily shut down a section of the Pa. Turnpike.

According to the New Kingstown Fire Company, the vehicle fire is along the westbound side of the turnpike near mile marker 234 and began around 2 p.m. 

All lanes were closed as emergency crews battled the blaze. PA Turnpike Alerts announced around 4 p.m. that I-76 West reopened from Gettysburg Pike #236 and Carlisle Exit #226. The right lane will remain closed past the scene at mile 234.5. 

Drivers have been advised to be alert for slowed traffic and crews working in the right lane and shoulder of the road. 

According to the New Kingstown Fire Company, the fire is under control. Multiple explosions were heard in the area of the Auto Auction on S. York Street but there is no active threat to the public. 

There were no reported injuries.
