Lebanon County woman charged for role in drive-by shooting at Mechanicsburg home

Tyra Edwards, 25, of Palmyra, was part of a group accused of firing multiple rounds at the home, which was struck 8 times, Upper Allen Police said.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — A Lebanon County woman has been charged with alleged involvement in a drive-by shooting that occurred at a home in Mechanicsburg in January, Upper Allen Township Police said.

Tyra Edwards, 25, of Palmyra, is charged with discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of children, and terroristic threats in connection to the alleged incident, which occurred on January 14 along the 1700 block of North Meadow Circle, police said.

On the night of the incident, several shots were fired at the home from a moving vehicle, according to police. The home was struck eight times, and investigators recovered nine 9mm shell casings from the scene.

There were four people, including two young children, inside the home at the time of the shooting, which occurred shortly after 3 a.m., police said.

Edwards had a previous relationship with one of the occupants of the home, who had previously obtained a Protection From Abuse Order against her, according to police.

The victim who had obtained the PFA told investigators about several previous altercations with Edwards in the days leading up to the shooting.

Edwards allegedly sent the victim's girlfriend multiple threatening text messages on January 1, police claim.

Prior to the shooting, the victim and his girlfriend were at a bar in Harrisburg when they encountered Edwards and a group of her friends, according to police. There was a confrontation, and Edwards and her associates made several verbal threats against the victim and his friends, police said.

The alleged encounter occurred roughly two hours before the shooting, according to police.

After the shooting, Edwards continued to send threatening messages to the victim and his family from various mobile devices, police claim.

Investigators tracked the numbers of Edwards and other members of her group and were able to determine that the phones had moved from Harrisburg to Johnstown on the day after the shooting, possibly in an attempt at flight to avoid apprehension, according to police.

The numbers were also where some of the threats against the victim and his family originated, police said.

Edwards was arrested in Harrisburg on January 25. She allegedly denied any involvement in the shooting.

Investigators impounded her vehicle after her arrest, and tests determined there was gunshot residue on the vehicle's exterior, according to the complaint.

Edwards is being held in Cumberland County Prison after failing to post bail of $15,000, according to court records.
