CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A woman is facing forgery and identity theft charges for allegedly stealing over $20,000 from a victim.
According to the Lower Allen Township Police Department, on May 31 at 12:12 p.m., officers were dispatched for fraud and identity theft. The victim reportedly checked her bank account- as she does daily- and discovered several large withdrawals for the following amounts: $5,312, $5,743, $3,025 and $6,420 for a total of $20,511.
Seeing the withdrawals, the victim contacted her bank who confirmed the withdrawals and informed her that someone matching her appearance had come into a Lancaster branch and presented a U.S. Passport with the victim's photo and information.
The suspect then made several withdrawals, some of which were paid in cash and others in cashier's checks.
On June 14, the investigators with the bank confirmed that the suspect had been arrested following her attempt to fraudulently obtain money from the branch in Lancaster.
Carol Cook, 56, was arrested in connection to the Lancaster incident and was held in Lancaster County Prison, according to the Lower Allen Township Police Department.
Cook is reportedly involved in the Cumberland County theft case as well as multiple others, but she was released before the arrest warrant could be served.
