MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Police in Cumberland County have charged two suspects with stealing $70,000 in cash from a storage facility in Mechanicsburg.

Daniel Brown, 24, of Ephrata, Lancaster County, and Matthew Reiff, 20, of Newville, Franklin County, are both charged with burglary, theft, and criminal trespass in the case, according to Lower Allen Township Police.

The alleged theft occurred on June 16 at a U-Haul storage facility on the 4700 block of Gettysburg Road in Lower Allen Township.

Police say the suspects cut a hole in a nearby fence to access the storage property and cut the locks on three storage units, one of which contained a tote bag with $70,000 in cash inside.

The victim told investigators they believed an estranged family member may have been involved in the theft, according to police.

Investigators were eventually able to identify Reiff and Brown as suspects in the case and filed charges against them on Wednesday, police said.

Both suspects are awaiting preliminary hearings.
