LANCASTER, Pa. — A Harrisburg man will serve up to 10 years in prison for trying to arrange a sexual encounter with what he believed to be a 14-year-old boy, the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office announced this week.
Brette Giles, 35, was sentenced to a prison term of 1 ½ to 10 years at a hearing Monday before Lancaster County President Judge David Ashworth, according to prosecutors.
He previously pleaded guilty to attempting to patronize a victim of human trafficking, attempted statutory sexual assault of a victim 11 years or older, criminal use of a communication facility, attempted corruption of minors, and attempted indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age, prosecutors said.
Giles was arrested as part of an enforcement operation conducted in January 2023 by the Lancaster County Human Trafficking Task Force, according to prosecutors. The operation was focused on preventing the solicitation of minors.
According to prosecutors, Giles responded to an online ad and began communicating with a Task Force member posing as a 14-year-old. He agreed to pay $100 in exchange for sex and traveled to an agreed-upon location, where he was apprehended by police.
Giles had the $100 and a condom in his possession at the time of his arrest, police said.
In addition to his prison term, Giles must register as a sex offender with Pennsylvania State Police for the rest of his life, prosecutors said.
Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick prosecuted the case.
West Lampeter Township Police Department Detective Sergeant Steven Heinly filed charges.
