MILLERSBURG, Pa. — A Schuylkill County man has been accused of assaulting and raping a woman in Dauphin County earlier this month.
Chad Sonnon, 18, of Ashland, is charged with felony counts of rape, sexual assault, and aggravated indecent assault by forcible compulsion and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, and indecent assault by forcible compulsion in connection to the alleged incident, which occurred at a home in Millersburg on November 1, according to State Police.
The victim told police Sonnon was in a relationship with her friend. He allegedly began making sexual advances toward her as she was lying on a futon in the living room of the home. The victim said she rejected Sonnon's advances, but he began sexually assaulting her and refusing her verbal admonishments to stop.
At one point, the victim wound up on her stomach after attempting to push Sonnon away. It was at that point he raped her, according to police.
After the alleged sexual assault concluded, the victim told police, she texted a friend and made up a family emergency in order to get away from Sonnon. Once she was at the friend's house, she contacted authorities to report the alleged rape.
Police say the victim underwent a sexual assault examination at UPMC Harrisburg around 2 a.m. on November 2. Medical staff at the facility confirmed to investigators that the results of the exam were consistent with forcible rape.
Sonnon was arrested and arraigned on the charges before Magisterial District Judge Joseph S. Lindsey, who set bail at $250,000.
He is currently in Dauphin County Prison awaiting a preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for Nov. 13, according to court records.
