The Colonial Park Mall in Dauphin County is back on the auction block.
The 344,421 square-foot property, which is located in Lower Paxton Township, is the subject of a three-day auction by Ten-X, running from July 15-17.
The mall was originally supposed to be auctioned last month, but the auction date was pushed back.
Built in 1960, the mall currently houses retailers such as Kay Jewelers, Claire's, and T-Mobile, among others.
The opening bid for the single-level building is set at $2.1 million.
Boscov's, which owns the retail space it occupies in the building, is not part of the auction, Lower Paxton Township officials said in a press release. Other retail spaces not on the auction block include the former Sears store, the former Sears Auto location, the former Enterprise location, Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Mountz Jewelers, which also have different owners.
Realizing that new zoning similar to King of Prussia’s town center would make the Colonial Park Mall site more attractive to potential developers, Lower Paxton’s Board of Supervisors in 2020 approved its own Towne Centre ordinance. The ordinance allows a blend of residential, commercial, cultural, institutional, and entertainment uses.
“The Colonial Park Mall was once a jewel in our township, and we believe with the right redevelopment plan it can shine again,’’ said Township Supervisors Chairman Robin Lindsey. “Just as we have worked with the current owners of the land, our Township is ready to work with new owners to create what we hope will be a regional destination.”
