HARRISBURG, Pa. — Dauphin County commissioners approved the 2025 budget on Wednesday, including a nearly 22% increase on property taxes.
The more than $222 million budget is a .6% increase over 2024. Dauphin County commissioners say the most recent projections showed a budget deficit of nearly $16 million for 2025.
The 21.8% tax increase equates to a $150 annual tax increase on properties assessed at $100,000.
A statement released on behalf of the commissioners attributes the tax increase to increasing costs of delivering county services as well as fluctuating state and federal dollars.
They say that after nearly two decades without a tax increase, they are aware and mindful of the impacts they will have on taxpayers. Officials stated that more opportunities to generate revenues and reduce expenses are planned in the coming years that are intended to alleviate any need for more tax increases.
