Police speak after teenager shot, killed in Harrisburg

A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Harrisburg. Police provided an update Tuesday.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed during a violent night in Harrisburg on Monday, police said.

According to Harrisburg Police Commissioner Thomas Carter, on Oct. 21 around 8:00 p.m. officers heard gunshots along the 1400 block of Hunter Street around and arrived to find a teenager had been shot on the porch of his home.

Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo says Ridge Moore Jr. was the victim in the shooting.

The victim's family tells FOX43 that Moore was returning home from a probationary program and about to head inside when he was murdered. His uncle, who lived at the home with Moore, says Ridge was in the process of turning his life around, when it was ended.

As officers were responding to that scene, they were also called to two separate shootings. One happened in the 1900 block of Chestnut Street just after 9:00 p.m., while the other happened around 9:50 p.m. in the 1200 block of Chestnut Street.

No one was injured in either incident, but both resulted in property damage.

Multiple casings were found at all three scenes. It's not yet known if the shootings are connected.

“It’s too early for me to go on the record and say it’s 100 percent gang-related but that’s something we’re not excluding and researching and looking into as well," said Lt. Kyle Gautsch of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police.

Police have made no arrests in the shootings and are asking anyone with information to share it.

“We [have to] keep pounding away and doing what we’re doing as a police department and as a community and try to get as many guns off the streets as we can and encourage the youth especially that there is an alternative to running the streets amuck," said Lt. Gautsch.

Moore's death marks the city's 19th homicide since the start of the year. He is the third teenager shot and killed in Harrisburg since August.

“We see way too many kids involved in activities like this and way too many kids this year who have lost their lives to gun violence," said Lt. Gautsch.

Anyone with information on this incident can contact the Harrisburg Police at 717-558-6900.
