DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A crash on I-81 in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County resulted in one fatality Sunday night.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on Sept. 29.
Pennsylvania State Police say a 2021 Jeep Wrangler was driving north on Interstate 81 when it left the right side of the roadway and entered the grassy median. The Jeep then traveled back across two lanes of travel and the right shoulder to exit the roadway on the southbound side and hit the guardrail. The car broke through the guardrail and flipped as it went down an embankment, landing on its roof.
According to troopers, the driver and back seat passenger were taken to the hospital for suspected moderate injuries.
The front-seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Utkarsh Munjal, 23, from Manassas, Virginia.
Officers noted that it was raining and the highway was wet at the time of the crash.
I-81 North was closed at Exit 77 (Manada Hill, Hershey) for several hours before the highway reopened around 11 p.m.
