HIGHSPIRE, Pa. — Police in Dauphin County are investigating complaints from Harrisburg International Airport regarding alleged laser strikes on incoming aircraft Tuesday night.

Air Traffic Control at the airport reported that the strikes were coming from an area about a mile north of the tower.

Highspire Police said they received two separate reports of laser strikes.

"Shining laser pointers at planes flying overhead poses serious risk to the safety of the aircraft and people on the ground," the police department said. "This action is not only hazardous, but also illegal."

Aiming a laser pointer at aircraft is a federal offense, the police department said. Those responsible can face substantial fines and up to five years in prison.

The police department said it is investigating the reports. Anyone with information is asked to contact Highspire Police at (717) 939-9866 or submit a tip online.
