Harrisburg School District launches search for next superintendent

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The search for Harrisburg School District's next superintendent has begun. 

Following the resignation of Eric Turman, the search officially began on Tuesday, June 11, with applications being accepted through July 8. 

The selected candidate will be appointed in August of 2024. 

The district is seeking a candidate who has an aptitude for working in a culturally diverse community and possesses strong skills in school finance, budgeting and cost-effectiveness strategies. The desired candidate would also lead the implementation of the District's Amended Recovery Plan to ensure that initiatives, action plans and goals are achieved. 

“Harrisburg School District appreciates Eric Turman’s leadership during his tenure with the district,” said HSD Court Appointed Receiver Dr. Lori Suski. “We look forward to beginning our search for a well-rounded candidate who will work collaboratively with the Receiver, elected School Board and community and keep our students’ academic success at the forefront of their work.”

The District will partner with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) for this search. Drawing on nearly 130 years of experience, PSBA will support the District through community surveying, advertising and recruitment, and assistance with candidate screening.
