HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Harrisburg-based company announced it is beginning renovations on a pair of vacant, blighted buildings in the city in hopes of turning them into four unique new living spaces available for lease.
The buildings, located at 104 and 106 Walnut Street, were built in the 1930s and were purchased by Charming on Walnut LLC and DH Mowrey Investments last year.
Charming on Walnut, an affiliate of Harristown Enterprises, will completely renovate the buildings with an aim to "preserve and enhance this historic district of Harrisburg for years to come," the company said in a press release.
The project will be similar to the apartment conversions done at The Plum and The Menaker, the company said. The renovations will include new roofs, new windows, and a new interior living spaces. When it's finished by the end of the year, there will be four two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments ready for lease.
The buildings are located directly across the street from the recently completed McCormack Riverfront Library expansion project, the company said.
Once completed, leasing and management of the property will be handled by another Harristown Enterprises affiliate, HBG Realty LLC.
Harristown Enterprises will have 252 residential units in its downtown holdings once the project is complete.
"The expansion onto Walnut Street, just off the riverfront and across from the library, is a great addition to our property portfolio," said Brad Jones, president and CEO of Harristown Enterprises. "This is the next up-and-coming corridor in the city to see renovation and rehabilitation, as evidenced by the stunning library rehabilitation. These long-vacant buildings will bring added residential life to that street and will help enhance the livability of our city."
