DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A neighbor's call alerted firefighters to a hay bale blaze that will now burn for weeks, first responders at the scene said.
Dauphin County 911 Dispatch says firefighters were called to the fire on the 500 block of Trail Road around 11:10 p.m. on Sept. 9.
Firefighters at the scene say the bales will burn for several weeks. A perimeter will help keep the fire where it is contained to one side of the field, and crews will monitor the blaze.
The flames melted one side of a barn on the property, but crews were able to save it before it could be damaged further.
Firefighters at the scene did not determine an exact cause, but they say the combination of humidity and the mushroom hay could have started the fire.
The blaze reached three alarms with water tanks alone to fight it, officials said.
The coroner has not been called to the East Hanover Township fire, and no injuries have been reported, officials said. First responders from Lebanon, Lancaster and York counties sent resources to help fight the blaze, according to Dispatch.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal investigated the cause of the fire and ruled it to be undetermined.
The Grantville Fire Company is investigating the incident.
