HERSHEY, Pa. — Officials with Hershey Pharmacy & Gift Shop announced the immediate closure of the pharmacy.
"For almost four decades, our family has had the privilege of providing healthcare, support and a personal touch that we hope has made a difference in your lives," the owners wrote on Facebook. "The reality is that the current state of Community Pharmacy is no longer profitable, and we cannot continue serving our community in the way we desire."
The post cites "thousands of pharmacies of all shapes and sizes have closed at an alarming rate across the country."
"Some prescriptions that we fill for our regular customers cost us hundreds of dollars out of our pocket to continue to fill, and we have no reasonable way to account for this type of economic loss," owners wrote. "We love Community Pharmacy and hope for positive change in the future, but for now, we will focus on our long-term care pharmacies serving nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the region."
Despite the immediate closure, officials with Hershey Pharmacy & Gift assured customers they will assist with final prescription pick-ups and transfers to other pharmacies. Customers should call 717-534-1300 for assistance.
