The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area is trying to help more than half of the 17 dogs rescued from "deplorable" living conditions earlier this year.
Of the 17 dogs rescued in January, nine are now available for adoption, the HSHA said Wednesday. The dogs were found and rescued from a home by a humane officer. At the time, the animals were covered in their own excrement, and their matted fur required special attention, the HSHA said.
Of the remaining eight dogs:
- a female has two puppies that are still nursing and remain in foster care at this time
- a senior dog needed some extended medical care and is still recovering
- four other dogs were adopted by their foster families
"These sweet pups are ready for forever homes, and those still in the care of HSHA continue to need support," the organization said in a press release. "HSHA will update when the remaining few will be available and thank the community for rallying to help care for them when they needed it most."
All adoptions are on a first-come basis, in person when HSHA opens Thursday at 11 am.
Potential adopters should come early to ensure they can meet the dogs, as the HSHA expects them to be adopted quickly.
