Missing kayaker in Harrisburg found dead

Brenton King, 44, went missing while kayaking on the Susquehanna River near the south side of City Island on Friday afternoon. He was found dead on Sunday.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Update, Feb. 19: Missing kayaker Brenton King was found dead in the Susquehanna River on Sunday, Feb. 18 shortly before 6 p.m., according to a City of Harrisburg spokesperson.

A drone located King 150 meters north of the Dock Street Dam, around where his kayak was recovered Friday evening. Investigators and first responders say the dam did not play a role in King’s death. 

The coroner ruled his cause of death freshwater drowning and the manner accidental.

Previously: Police are looking for a man who went missing while kayaking on the Susquehanna River on Friday afternoon.

On Feb. 16, at around 2 p.m., officers were called to the south side of City Island for a missing kayaker.

Police say Brenton King, 44, was identified as the missing man.

King's kayak was recovered by rescue services but he was nowhere to be found.

As of 1:30 p.m. Saturday, King has not been found, police said.

He is described as a Black man with a thin build and around 6 feet tall. 

King was likely wearing a fluorescent orange and black fishing bib when he disappeared.

Police are investigating the incident.
