HARRISBURG, Pa. — Two Harrisburg School District students were hit by a vehicle and suffered minor injuries while riding their bikes home after their first day of school.

According to a Harrisburg School District Facebook post, the incident occurred at the intersection of North Sixth Street and Division Street on Sept. 3, and EMS responded to the scene to provide care. The district said that one student was from John Harris High School, and the other was from the Capital Academy of Harrisburg.

The district's Facebook post also included safety tips for people when driving in or near school zones, including slowing down for students walking to and from school, paying attention to the road and complying to the strict, 15 MPH speed limit.

The district also reminded parents to make sure their children follow all proper safety precautions while riding bikes, including wearing a helmet, watching traffic and checking tire pressure and brakes.
