HARRISBURG, Pa. — Two schools within the Harrisburg School District were briefly placed on lockdown Monday afternoon.
According to the public relations coordinator with the school district, at 3 p.m. the principals of Steele Elementary School and Camp Curtain Academy were notified of gunshots being fired in the community, near North 6th Street in Harrisburg.
The schools were immediately placed on lockdown and all students and staff sheltered in classrooms.
At the direction of the Harrisburg Police Bureau, the lockdown was lifted at 3:35 p.m. and all students and staff members are safe.
According to Lt. Gautsch with the Harrisburg City Police Department, the shooting was reported around 3:15 p.m. in the area of N. 6th and Radnor Streets. A juvenile male was found with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
