WASHINGTON — Mariah Carey visited the Library of Congress Thursday evening to commemorate the induction of her hit song “All I Want For Christmas is You” into the 2023 National Recording Registry.
Each year, 25 recordings are selected to be added to the registry, "showcasing the range and diversity of American recorded sound heritage in order to increase preservation awareness," according to the Library of Congress website.
Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden presented a certificate to Carey. While at the Library of Congress, Carey browsed the collections and copyright items related to her career.
Other recordings selected for this year's additions include Madonna's "Like A Virgin" and Queen Latifah’s “All Hail the Queen.”
“The National Recording Registry preserves our history through recorded sound and reflects our nation’s diverse culture,” Hayden said in a press release. “The national library is proud to help ensure these recordings are preserved for generations to come, and we welcome the public’s input on what songs, speeches, podcasts or recorded sounds we should preserve next. We received more than 1,100 public nominations this year for recordings to add to the registry.”
