WATCH: Driver hits mother, son and dog – then drives off

The Capitol Hill mother says her son was trapped under the tire.

WASHINGTON — Police are still searching for the driver who hit a woman, her son, and their dog – and then drove off in Northeast D.C.

The incident happened on Oct. 4 on C and 12th streets Northeast. A neighbor's Nest camera captured the hit-and-run

The Capitol Hill mother told WUSA9 she was crossing the street with her two children and their dog when the SUV hit them.

Her daughter moved out of the way. Her 6-year-old son and their dog were hit head on.

“His left foot was trapped under the wheel of the vehicle. My dog, I thought he was dead. I wasn’t sure how badly my son was injured. My daughter was screaming.” the mother said.

The mother, who did not want to be identified, said the impact knocked her out of her shoes. She said bystanders rushed to her son who was under a tire.

“ I was trying to get my son’s foot dislodged from the tire. Someone yelled at the driver to pull over." mom said.

In the video, the driver appears to pull over but then drives off. Neighbors say the intersection is a problem. Drivers often skip the stop sign.

“So a lot of people drag race down to make that light and blow through the stop sign." Adrian Muys said.

The boy is expected to make a full recovery.

Mom tells WUSA9 police told her the vehicle was recovered with her dog's hair on it.

DC Police said no arrests have been made and the incident is still under investigation.

Mom said, “Very unsettling to know someone wouldn’t stop to see. My son and dog could have been lying dead and the driver just takes off."
