LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. — A victim has been identified in a fatal four-vehicle crash that occurred on the early morning of Nov. 14 in East Hanover Township.
At around 12:27 a.m. on I-81 northbound near mile marker 84.8, a Kenworth Northwest tractor-trailer was following behind a Peterbilt tractor-trailer in the right lane of I-81 north. The Kenworth tractor-trailer then proceeded to strike the rear end of the Peterbilt tractor-trailer, causing Kenworth Northwest to jackknife.
Then, a Subaru Outback struck the rear end of the Peterbilt, directing the Subaru into the left lane of I-81 where it was struck by a Hyundai Elantra.
The Hyundai Elantra caught fire in the left lane.
The operators of the Peterbilt and the Subaru Outback were transported to Hershey Medical Center for evaluation.
The passenger of the Subaru Outback, who has been identified as James Stokes, 27, of Cresco was pronounced dead on the scene.
The incident is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police Jonestown, and anyone with information related to the crash, or potentially caught the incident on dash camera footage is asked to contact the station at 717-865-2194.
