LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. — Update, 10:45 a.m. (Nov. 15): State Police have released additional details about the crash, including the identity of the deceased.
According to police, the crash occurred when a tractor trailer traveling in the right lane of I-81 North struck the rear end of another tractor trailer, causing the second truck to jackknife.
The third vehicle involved, a 2020 Subaru Outback, then struck the rear of the first tractor trailer, causing the Outback to carom into the left lane, where it was struck by a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, which then caught fire.
James Stokes, 27, who was a front seat passenger in the Outback, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Two others were transported to Hershey Medical Center for treatment, police said.

A deadly crash involving four vehicles closed a portion of Interstate 81 northbound in Lebanon County for hours on Thursday.
According to PennDOT, the crash occurred on Interstate 81 around 2:40 a.m. on Nov. 14 at mile marker 84.8.
Officials say that two tractor trailers, one of which was carrying beer and the other fertilizer, collided with two passenger vehicles.
As of now, one person is dead in connection to the crash.
There is no word on if any other injuries were suffered.
