Police identify victim of deadly crash involving moped on Interstate 81 South

MANCHESTER, Pa. — A 70-year-old York County man died of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 South Sunday night, State Police said.

Richard Thornton Fletcher, of Manchester, was operating a 2015 Yamaha YW50F moped near Mile Marker 59.4 in Hampden Township at about 11:39 p.m. when he attempted to merge from the right lane to the left lane and was struck from behind by a 2023 Freightliner M2 medium-duty truck. The impact caused Fletcher to fall off his vehicle, according to State Police.

Fletcher was transported from the scene to Holy Spirit Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, State Police said.

The operator of the other vehicle was not injured, according to police.
