Police investigating crash into Harrisburg toy store that left a man dead

Authorities are investigating after a man was struck and killed, and multiple buildings were damaged after a crash.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Monday was a day of unexpected cleanup at The Treasure Trove Toy Store and More in Harrisburg.

“This is just absolutely devastating that something like this has happened to his business," said Lane Leinberger, a friend of the store's owners.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, around 3:15 p.m., an unidentified driver traveling north on N. Second Street swerved off the road and crashed into the storefront.

Owner Jason Crocenzi wasn't there, but his wife was. Crocenzi says she was sitting by the cash register, right by the front window, when the crash happened.

“That whole window exploded in," he said. "All our inventory, that wall outside came falling down right here where she was sitting.”

Store worker Daniel Hudgens was inside as well.

“I mean that’s what it sounded like when it hit the building, we thought a bomb went off," said Hudgens.

Both are okay but the crash did take the life of a customer, 68-year-old Harrisburg resident Eusebio Forestier. Forestier was on a mobility scooter outside the shop when he was struck and killed, according to the Dauphin County Coroner's Office.

“He had been in just a little bit earlier than that and was on his way back because he saw some more stuff he wanted and he was right out front and the vehicle struck him," explained Crocenzi.

“It’s a shame, that kind of person getting killed, it’s just heart-wrenching," added Leinberger.

“I’ve seen him a couple times. I didn’t know his name," added Crocenzi. "I heard he was just getting married, it’s sad.”

Now Crocenzi is trying to move forward, reopening his doors less than 24 hours after the crash.

“I just want people to be able to come in and still get what they need," he said. "Even though we’re going through stuff, if someone needs something, they can come in and get it."

“You just clean up and move forward and that’s why we came over to help him," said Leinberger.

Police have not filed charges in the incident as of Monday afternoon, as they continue to investigate what exactly caused the driver to crash.

Harrisburg Police have confirmed to FOX43 the driver was not being chased by officers.

The driver was hospitalized and is in critical condition, according to police.

An autopsy on Forestier is scheduled for Oct. 8.

The store posted on its Facebook page that it will be open as it cleans up the mess.

Officials say that an investigation into the crash is underway.
