Man dies after colliding with downed power line while riding snowmobile

Police said the driver, identified as Zachary Peiffer, 20, from Newberry Township, was traveling north in the 200 block of York Rd. when the collision occurred.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A man is dead after colliding with a downed utility line while operating a snowmobile.

The crash was reported at approximately 8 a.m. on York Road and Miller Road in Newberry Township, dispatch said.

Police said the driver, identified as Zachary Peiffer, 20, from Newberry Township, was traveling north in the 200 block of York Rd. when the collision occurred, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the York County Coroner Pamela Gay, the cause of death was a sharp force neck trauma due to impact with a downed wire and was ruled accidental. 

At the time of the crash, a winter storm in the area caused hazardous conditions, including downed power lines.

There were no other injuries, vehicles or passengers involved in the incident.
