MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Two 911 Public Safety Telecommunications dispatchers from Cumberland County joined the illustrious "Stork Club" late last year when they helped two women in labor give birth.
Dispatchers Terrin Brammer and Shannon Sprague received their "Stork" awards Thursday at a meeting with the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners, the county's communications office said in a press release.
Brammer helped a mother deliver a healthy baby boy on November 29, 2023, while Sprague assisted in the delivery of another baby boy on December 26, the county said.
Both dispatchers' detailed medical instruction to the callers helped both babies arrive safely, the county said.
"Both Brammer and Sprague determined the severity and nature of the medical emergency, selected the proper services to dispatch, and assisted the mother and child until the arrival of an ambulance crew," the county said.
With the delivery of the two baby boys, Terrin and Shannon join their 27 fellow Public Safety Dispatchers in the successful delivery of 36 babies since the inception of Emergency Medical Dispatch 31 years ago, according to the county.
Brammer has worked for the Department of Public Safety for more than four years, and Sprague has served county residents for more than two years.
