East Pennsboro Township moves location for National Night Out

East Pennsboro's National Night Out was moved from Adams Ricci Park to the Penn Harris Hotel along the Camp Hill Bypass to avoid severe weather.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — East Pennsboro Township is making the final preparations for the annual National Night Out, after being forced to relocate hours before the event.

As communities across south-central Pennsylvania prepare to celebrate National Night Out, severe weather sweeping through the region forced several municipalities to postpone or cancel their events.

Meanwhile, East Pennsboro Township decided to move their NNO event from Adams Ricci Park to the Penn Harris Hotel along the Camp Hill Bypass.

“We made phone calls, we sent emails, and it’s been a little chaotic," said Detective Denelle Owen. "But that’s okay because, in the end, it’s going to be a great event.”

Officers said the event has drawn in hundreds of people from East Pennsboro Township for the past few years. Chief Scott Miller said the event allows people to learn from police about the efforts they go through to protect their community.

“We’re hoping for a relaxed, fun environment where people can ask questions to our police officers, young people, middle age, and the elderly, who might not normally feel comfortable interacting with the police if they’re responding to an incident," said Chief Miller.

This year's East Pennsboro National Night Out will feature dozens of vendors and food options for those who attend. There will also be plenty of prizes for guests to win.

Chief Miller said he hopes the event allows people to continue building trust with his officers.

“This is a great national event for people to recognize that our police officers are out there to help and support them," said Miller.

The event will take place at 1150 Camp Hill Bypass, Camp Hill from 6 to 8 p.m.
