NEW OXFORD, Pa. — A heavy police presence at an ACNB Bank in Oxford Township, Adams County Thursday was due to the report of a package left behind by three people who were "acting suspiciously," police said Friday morning.
The incident occurred at 4:46 p.m. at the bank, located on the 300 block of Lincoln Way East, according to Eastern Adams Regional Police.
Employees at the bank told police that a man and two women entered the bank and began acting suspiciously, wandering around inside the bank and "asking questions," according to police. The group had never been seen in the bank before, employees reported.
When the three subjects left, they appeared to leave behind a white plastic bag in the corner of the foyer. The bag was tied closed, but it appeared to have boxes inside it, the employees said.
The bank manager initiated bank protocols, evacuated everyone from the bank, and locked all doors, according to police.
When authorities arrived, they contacted the State Police Bomb Unit to assist, while fire and EMS personnel were dispatched and placed on stand-by, police said. Lincoln Way East was closed from Center Square to Cross Keys and Billerbeck as a safety precaution.
Bomb Unit members x-rayed the package and discovered it was filled with nine pairs of eyeglasses inside hard protective cases, according to police. The objects were collected and taken to EARP, where they were logged as evidence.
The threat was declared over at 8:02 p.m. and the surrounding roadways were re-opened, according to police.
