YORK, Pa. — The skies were clear and the weather was perfect for the grand opening of America's Oldest Fair.
“You just see people having fun, and the weather is perfect for the first day," said Latisha Santiago, who was attending the York State Fair with her friends.
On Friday, hundreds of people came out to the York Fairgrounds for the first of ten days at the York State Fair. Isaiah Vargas said it's something he looks forward to each year.
“I always get to see friends I haven’t seen in so long," said Vargas. "This is a chance to get to see them all again, have fun, and buy food.”
The York State Fair features over 100 food vendors, 45 rides and daily agricultural shows. This year's event also features new free attractions, such as the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, the Cool Zoo Reptile Show, and the Flying Cortes, which involves a man firing himself from a cannon.
"I don’t know how they pull that off, but that’s something new," said Don Krouse on the new Flying Cortes show.
The York State Fair also features several concerts throughout the ten-day event. Some of the concerts include Lainey Wilson, Ted Nugent, Halestorm/I Prevail, Breaking Benjamin, and Ludacris.
Montgomery Stambaugh with the York State Fair said there’s a lot of excitement for this year’s event. Officials hope to welcome thousands of people to the fairgrounds over the next ten days.
"People are excited for the entertainment, animals, and a lot of the new acts we have available," said Stambaugh. "People seem to have a good reaction and we're hoping for a good turnout."
