HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Harrisburg High School teacher and school safety monitor have been placed on leave after engaging in a physical altercation in one of the school's classrooms on Wednesday morning.
According to the Harrisburg School District, a teacher and school safety monitor were involved in a verbal disagreement that escalated to a physical fight during one of the class periods on March 13.
The incident began when the safety monitor entered the classroom unexpectedly and confronted the teacher about a personal matter. The school district says that other safety monitors and staff attempted to de-escalate the conflict, and the fight was brief and no one was injured. Both staff members were escorted from school grounds.
Eric Turman, Superintendent of the School District, released a statement to parents saying that both employees involved in the fight have been placed on leave while an investigation into the incident unfolds.
Turman also said via a statement that the incident is "entirely unacceptable, highly unusual, and is not in any way representative of our faculty and staff who take seriously their responsibility as role models for the students."
The district had a scheduled early dismissal day for students.
