Public advised to avoid Franklin County courthouse due to bomb threat, scene deemed 'clear'

​Franklin County EMS confirmed to FOX43's crew at the scene that police are responding to a bomb threat directed at the courthouse.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. — The public has been asked to avoid downtown Chambersburg due to an ongoing police incident.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, at 1:40 p.m., a bomb threat was received by a Franklin County employee working in the Franklin County Judicial Center at 14 N. Main Street.

 Residents were temporarily advised to avoid downtown Chambersburg. 

In coordination with the Sheriff's Office, members of the Chambersburg Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to assist during the incident. With the use of three K9 teams, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a controlled sweep of the impacted areas was complete and the area was deemed “clear.”

The court will be closed for the remainder of Wednesday, April 10, according to officials. 

Law enforcement agencies are working under the direction of the Franklin County District Attorney is investigate and identify who is responsible for the threat.
