Lanes reopen after fatal crash reported along I-81 in Franklin County

A tractor-trailer reportedly went down off the left side of the highway around 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 and crashed.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. — Emergency crews are at the scene of a crash in Franklin County. 

According to 511PA, the crash is along Interstate 81 southbound between Exit 16: U.S. 30- Lincoln Way and Exit 10: PA 914 Marion. 

All lanes have reopened. According to a PennDOT spokesperson, traffic was being taken off at Exit 14. 

A tractor-trailer carrying bottled drinks reportedly went down off the left side of the highway around 6 p.m. and crashed. The coroner was called to the scene. 

According to the Franklin Fire Company, the driver of the tractor-trailer was pronounced dead at the scene. Pennsylvania State Police identified the driver as James Haywood, 58, of Georgia.

Crews at the scene are working to offload the trailer, remove the cab and clean up. 

It is unlikely the road will be reopened anytime soon, according to PennDOT.
