Crews battle Friday night fire in Waynesboro

First responders reported flames coming from the second floor of a duplex unit..

Crews with the Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department battled the flames of a duplex fire on Friday.

According to the fire department's Facebook post, the incident occurred on the second floor of a duplex unit on East Fifth Street on Sept. 6. The responding companies fought to contain the fire in the unit as well as the smoke and water damage in the unit below it.

The Waynesboro Borough and Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene just before 9 p.m. They were aided by the following mutual aid companies: Mont Alto, Leitersburg, Blue Ridge Summit, Smithsburg, Long Meadow, New Franklin, South Mountain, City of Hagerstown, Greencastle, Wellspan EMS, Waynesboro EMS and Washington County, Md. Emergency Air and Rehab Unit. 

The incident is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police.
