Franklin County police investigating armed robbery, one of three suspects arrested

Police have identified a suspect in the robbery, Alfredo Cardona Padilla, who lives in Reading. He turned himself into police on April 5.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. — Update, March 22: On March 20, Chambersburg Police Department detectives received information from the Pennsylvania State Police that the suspect vehicle had been captured on their automated license plate readers, which showed the van being towed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. 

Police requested the assistance of the City of Reading Police Department, who visited the company and located the van. 

After the van was towed to another location, CPD detectives, along with the Pennsylvania State Police Troop L Forensic Unit, responded to search the van for evidence. According to troopers, there was evidence that connected the car involved in the Chambersburg heist. 

After further investigation, police identified a suspect in the robbery, Alfredo Cardona-Padilla, 45, who lives in Reading. He's believed to be the driver involved in the robbery. 

On April 5, Cardona-Padilla reportedly turned himself into the Chambersburg Police Department and was transported to Franklin County Jail. Cardona-Padilla's bail was denied. 

He has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault, persons not to possess a firearm, theft, firearm not to be carried without a license and unlawful restraint. 

Previously: Franklin County police are investigating a reported armed robbery in the area of the Southgate Mall. 

According to the Chambersburg Police Department, on March 18 at 1:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to a reported robbery in the area. The three armed men reportedly stole several cases containing money from a vehicle and held the occupants at gunpoint. 

The men then fled the scene in a white Ford van.
