HARRISBURG, Pa. — A task force meeting to determine the future of the abandoned William Penn High School in Harrisburg will be held on Tuesday night.
Members of this task force agree that they don’t want to see the abandoned William Penn school demolished, but instead rebuilt and repurposed.
But some members are worried about how they can find the money to do this.
On Tuesday, Jan. 23, they will put together their ideas in a formal presentation to school board members.
During last week's meeting, many members agreed they would like to see the building repurposed and centered around career education.
The main concern was where the funding will be coming from.
Through small breakout sessions, some task force members argued the school district should bring in a partner to help them financially long term.
The school district has already approved a $2.4 million contract to stabilize and secure the building, after a fire late last year.
Other plans include the removal of asbestos and cleaning out of all debris and hazardous material.
