Punxsutawney who? Here's what Central Pennsylvania's weather-predicting groundhogs have to say

So far, the local groundhogs are voting 3-2 in favor of an early spring, with a couple of calls still to be made.

YORK, Pa. — Happy Groundhog Day, everybody!

By now, you're probably aware that Pennsylvania's most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerged from his den on Gobbler's Knob and did NOT see his shadow -- which means, according to Pennsylvania Dutch tradition, that spring will arrive early this year.

But with all due respect to Phil, he's not the only weather predicting rodent in the Commonwealth.

Here's a roundup of predictions from some of Central Pennsylvania's weather-predicting hogs.

Octoraro Orphie

The stuffed mascot of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge in Quarryville, Lancaster County saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter, snapping a streak of two consecutive early spring predictions.

Mount Joy Minnie

At a gathering around the town clock in the Lancaster County borough, Mount Joy Minnie concurred with her colleague in Punxsutawney, predicting an early spring after not seeing her shadow when she emerged from her slumber.

M.T. Parker

A relative newcomer to the weather predicting game, M.T. Parker made his fourth weather call at a ceremony at Stauffer Mansion in Manheim Township, Lancaster County.

His prediction: Six more weeks of winter.

Elliott

The spiritual successor to the dearly departed Poppy, Elliott will make his call at 11 a.m. in a ceremony at Ville & Rue in Lancaster at 11 a.m.

We'll update his prediction once he makes it.

Poor Richard

In York County, the resident groundhog of Elks Lodge #213, Poor Richard, predicted an early spring at a ceremony this morning.

Uni

The resident prognosticator of Myerstown in Lebanon County, Uni made her traditional weather call from a boat in Tulpehocken Creek at a ceremony organized by Union Kanaal Grundsau Lodsch No. 17 of Eastern Lebanon County.

Uni is calling for an early spring -- albeit one with snow and rain.
