HANOVER, Pa. — On Saturday, people flocked to Hanover to celebrate the start of fall with two first-of-its-kind food events.
“We really enjoy going out and doing the events Hanover has to offer," said Blake Beares.
Hundreds of people came out to Moul Field for a day of entertainment and snacking in the first-ever Snack Town Fall Fest. The festival featured a battle of the bands concert, games and dozens of vendors serving the best food and drinks in Hanover.
“We got some barbeque and, of course, got our Utz chips. We’ll probably get some funnel cake later," said Beares.
“It’s been exciting to see the locals get together for the music, vendors, and brews," added Roxanne Gioia.
A few blocks away at the Hanover Market House, competitive eaters of all ages loosened their belts to compete in the first-ever Hanover Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Bryant Grimm walked away as the area's first hot dog eating champion after consuming around 12 hot dogs during the five-minute competition.
“I came a little hungry," said Grimm. "But other than that, I just eat a lot of food sometimes, which is what I’ve been doing my whole life. So, I guess I’ve always been ready [for this competition].”
Hanover residents said the combination of good food and entertainment served as a great way to bring the community together to celebrate the start of autumn.
"It's a beautiful day, and we want to get out, get some food and walk around," expressed Beares.
