Leaders unveil Harrisburg Arts District app | Travel Smart

Visit Hershey & Harrisburg unveiled its new app this week, highlighting events, performance venues and galleries.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — There's a new way to explore the Capital City.

Leaders with Visit Hershey & Harrisburg, along with partnering organizations, unveiled the new Harrisburg Arts District App on Wednesday.

The free app is a new effort to promote the walkable region of Harrisburg, that also acts as a guide while exploring the area.

Visitors can use the app to:

  • Search by categories to find murals, performance venues, museums, galleries, monuments, shopping, and places to eat.
  • Take audio tours of colorful murals and historic monuments.
  • Create and share a customized itinerary with planning and mapping features.

"We should not come second to larger cities, we are essentially located for people to have access to us very easily, an hour and a half two hours away from every metropolitan museum in the north east." said Jason Graves, City of Harrisburg Economic Development Director. "So, why can’t we bring those people here?”

The Harrisburg Arts District is centered around the 3rd Street corridor, beginning in Midtown and stretching past the Pa. capitol complex and Whitaker Center.

Organizers said that it's also about helping the area economically.

"In Pennsylvania, the creative sector is a $30 billion value add to our economy every year," said Karl Blischke, Executive Director of Pa. Council on the Arts. "And it employs 175,000 Pennsylvanian's."

The free app is available for both iPhone and Android devices.
